A STATEMENT BY THE ANTI-IMPERIALIST INDEPENDENCE FRONT OF BRITAIN

Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev, the former General Secretary of the Soviet Communist Party and ex-President of the USSR, has been invited to a charity gala at the Royal Albert Hall on March 30th 2011 as, the guest of honour, for his services to humanity. Gorbachev 's services to mankind will be celebrated by the aristocracy,celebrities, politicians, billionaires and multi-billionaires. These plutocrats make their fortunes out of the blood, sweat, and tears of millions of working people throughout the world. It is an indication of the kind of audience who will attend this event with tickets for it ranging in price from £300 to £400. To the low-paid and people on benefits this kind of money would represent a month's salary.

M.S.Gorbachev is generally regarded by the cosmopolitan elite as being a saint for delivering the world from the menace of "hard line" communism and bringing peace, free market economics and democracy to Russia and Eastern Europe. Gorbachev is seen by the imperialists as the man who helped the West to win the cold war.

The peoples of the former USSR, the citizens of the ex socialists countries, the Korean,the Cuban and Libyan peoples and indeed all those are struggling for independence against imperialism, have a fundamentally different perspective of Mr. Gorbachev and his deeds as compared to his Albert Hall hosts.Mr.Gorbachev will be remembered by history as the figure who was responsible for the reversal of the People's Independent cause and the apparent triumph of neo-liberalism,

Gorbachev's greatest crime was the wilful destruction of the Soviet Union, of the first Workers and Peasants State.The USSR, whatever its later faults resulting from the decisions of the 20th CPSU Congress, was an inspiration for all those struggling for Peace and Social Justice. We, the advocates of independence, will forever consider the betrayal of the legacy of the Great October Socialist Revolution of 1917 by Gorbachev as the most despicable act carried out in the 20th century.

As a consequence of Gorbachev actions, there were various bloody ethnic conflicts between different Soviet republics and a ferocious civil war in Yugoslavia. Perestroika and Glasnost resulted in the wealth and power of Russia and Eastern Europe being concentrated into the hands of a few mafia bosses, while millions of working people in the former Socialist community countries have gone into poverty and have been forced by their circumstances into emigration to Western Europe for employment. Life expectancy in the Soviet Union during the 1980s was 75 years, now it is something around 55 years in the Russian Federation and CIS states.

The Anti-Imperialist Independent Front Of Britain calls upon all Marxist-Leninists, Socialists, Trade Unionists, Peace Campaigners and Anti-imperialist Activists to boycott, picket and protest this event in celebration of this worst kind of class,anti-people traitor. We who have anti-imperialism and independence as our guiding principles must make the message loud and clear: Mikhail Gorbachev, you are not welcome here in Britain and go back to your imperialist, Zionist and modern revisionist sponsors. Mikhail Gorbachev's visit to Britain on March 30th 2011 is in the interests of the military-industrial complex, and not in the interests of progressive people and so must be vigorously opposed!
