PYONGYANG CELEBRATES THE WORKERS' PARTY OF KOREA ON THE DAY OF ITS 65 Th ANNIVERSARY (PHOTO REPORT)
In Pyongyang, on Sunday 10 October, a military parade dedicated to the 65 th anniversary of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) was held. The culmination of celebrations was a parade of the most ambitious in the history of the DPRK. It was attended by 20,000 people and during the Parade across Kim Il Sung Square, the DPRK armed forces were represented by tanks, armored personnel carriers, as well as tactical and ballistic missiles.
Celebrations associated with the 65 anniversary since the founding of the WPK, began on Friday with a Flower Festival in the North Korean capital. At the centre of attention was the orchid of “Kim Il Sung” and “Kim Jong Il” flowers. The next day at the central stadium in Pyongyang, a concert was held. At the Sunday military parade, as well as at the celebration at the stadium the day before, along with Kim Jong Il, his son also attended, deputy chairman of the Central Military Commission, 27-year-old Kim Jong In. This post was occupied by Kim Jong In, in late September. The son of the North Korean leader was awarded the rank of general, and in addition, Kim Jong In was included in the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea. Earlier this month, Kim Jong In with his father attended a military exercise.
The appearance at the parade of the leader of the DPRK Kim Jong Il was greeted by those present shouting "Hurrah!" Demonstrators and many soldiers shouted: "Long live Kim Jong Il!"
The celebratory events in North Korea were covered by more than a hundred foreign correspondents. There were also colorful fireworks, which decorated the sky with flowers over the capital of the country. In the main square of Pyongyang was a theatrical performance with songs and dances, in which hundreds of people took part. In this form, the artists exhibited the achievments of their native country in various fields.
