It was attended by Bahrani,Libyan ,Syrian and Palestinian group plus ageing peacenik types from the Stop the War Coalition and CND . Regrettably virtually no communist presence there apart from Andy Brooks of the New Communist Party . I regret not bringing a DPRK flag or KFA banner but only knew at short notice. Demo was marred by presence of right wing anti Assad Syrians. They started jumping up and down and shouting at Andy Brooks who was holding a picture of President Assad . They whinged to the police who moved him on .

Rodong Sinmun on Victory of Socialism

Pyongyang, May 23 (KCNA) -- Transition from capitalism to socialism is the law governing the development of human society and this means the process in which the cause of socialism is emerging victorious, says Rodong Sinmun Monday in a bylined article.

It goes on:

Popular masses have always longed for a new social system protecting and bringing them independence and waged a strenuous struggle to realize their centuries-old desire under the system where the reactionary rulers lord it over, violating independence.

Socialism is a sacred ideal and a revolutionary banner of the popular masses who struggle for independence.

The popular masses could not achieve independence in the society ruled by hostile classes because it was the society based on individualism.

The gap between the rich and the poor is widening in the capitalist countries due to the capitalist exploitation and plunder and, consequently, the sovereign rights of the toiling masses are wantonly violated.

The deeper political and economic crisis capitalism finds itself in and the harsher the capitalist exploitation and oppression get, the fiercer the struggle of the working masses against them grow.

As long as there are imperialist forces, the struggle of the world people against them will be intensified and in this course the cause of socialism is bound to triumph.

The imperialists make last-ditch efforts to bring down socialism. This proves that socialism is a society indisputably superior to capitalism.

Korean-style socialism centered on the popular masses winning victory after victory as the days go by serves as a beacon of hope and a banner of victory for the progressive people who desire socialism or struggle to build it. -0-

Anniversary of the Kwangju Uprising

Pyongyang, May 18 (KCNA) -- 31 years have passed since all-people resistance was waged in Kwangju of south Korea against the U.S. imperialists' colonial domination and the military dictatorial forces' fascist rule.

The desire for independence, democracy and reunification mounted high among the south Koreans entering the 1980s. Much upset by it, the south Korean military fascist forces proclaimed the "emergency martial law" across south Korea, mercilessly arrested and executed core members of student movement organizations, progressive professors and democratic figures of various strata. They also banned all the political activities and enforced pre-check of publications.

Enraged by this, youth and students and citizens of Kwangju took to the street on May 18, 1980, chanting the slogans "Repeal emergency martial law!" and "Abolish the Yusin system!"

The uprising turned into the massive resistance in a moment with workers, farmers, officers, religionists and other people in Kwangju and its surrounding areas involved. It developed into the armed resistance from May 21.

The resistance forces pushed the "martial forces" into the suburbs, turned Kwangju City into "liberated area" and organized the self-defensive armed ranks to carry on brave and organized struggle.

With this as a momentum the stronger spirit of anti-"government" struggle flared up in the different parts of south Korea and 17 cities and counties joined the uprising in South Jolla Province alone.

The resistance forces failed to attain their goal owing to the puppet forces who committed brutal suppression armed with lethal means at the instigation of the U.S. imperialists. The Kwangju Popular Uprising, however, set off the fierce storm of anti-U.S. independence and the anti-fascist democratic movement in south Korea.

The uprising which was brilliantly recorded in the anti-U.S., the anti-fascist and democratic movement calls upon all the south Koreans of various strata to the struggle to judge the present regime which turned the south Korean society into the theater of the fascist suppression and an area with poor human rights record under the active patronage of the U.S. -0-

Rodong Sinmun Brands Bourgeois Ideology and Culture as Dangerous Virus

Rodong Sinmun Brands Bourgeois Ideology and Culture as Dangerous Virus

Pyongyang, May 13 (KCNA) -- Bourgeois ideology and way of life are dangerous virus making people mental cripples. Rodong Sinmun Friday says this in a bylined article.

It goes on:

Today the imperialists are infiltrating the reactionary ideology and culture into other countries, saying what can not be solved even with nuclear weapons can be easily done by the spread of ideology and culture.

What they seek through their active ideological and cultural poisoning is to degenerate the people's idea, disintegrate those countries from within and put them under their domination and control.

Running through the bourgeois ideology and culture are such inhumane elements as deception, fraud, extreme liberalism, class, national and racial discrimination, misanthropy, personal luxury, corruption and degeneration, dollar-almighty idea and war instigation.

The bourgeois ideology and culture make people betes noires and mental cripples who idle time away with debauchery, dishonesty and corruption.

The bourgeoisies are desperately trying to stamp out the national culture of other countries through ideological and cultural poisoning. The aim sought by them through this is to obliterate the national characters of those countries and make them blindly follow and serve them.

One should never allow any practice of spreading bourgeois ideology, culture and lifestyle which divest man of his soul and body and cause social chaos.

KCNA Commentary Blasts U.S. Policy of Overseas Aggression

Pyongyang, May 12 (KCNA) -- The president of the World Peace Council, addressing the second peace seminar for the dismantlement of military bases overseas, described U.S. President Barack Obama as the new face of its war expansionism.

It exposed once again that the U.S. policy of hegemony which has been pursued historically has been invariably carried forward by the 44th administration and the American president is the chief executor of the government's policy of overseas aggression.

The U.S. has about 850 military bases in 135 countries and it is responsible for 43 percent of military spending worldwide.

No country in the world has so many military bases overseas as the U.S.

The U.S. has stationed its huge troops in the Asia-Pacific region under the pretext of coping with the "attack to the south" by the Soviet Union in the period of the Cold War. But it has steadily increased the number of military strongholds in that region and hastened the forward-deployment of U.S. forces even now when the Cold War is over and it has no military rivals.

The main thrust of the U.S. Asia strategy is to ward off the influence of other big powers upon this region, contain the expansion of the sphere of their forces and establish a U.S. style order of domination over it by force of arms.

South Korea and Japan are outposts for carrying out the U.S. Asia strategy and the forward-deployment of U.S. forces is used as a military lever for its implementation.

The U.S. claims that a lot of military bases set up by it in Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, the United Arab Emirates and other Middle East regions are aimed to beat back the possible aggression from Iran and ensure the security of the oil transport route.

In the middle of the 1990s the U.S. set up its military facilities in Hungary, Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Macedonia and Southern Kosovo under the pretext of peace-keeping and humanitarian activities.

The U.S. set up at least 19 new military bases after the September 11, 2001 incident.

Latin America is no exception as far as the issue of U.S. military bases is concerned.

The U.S. put five air force bases and two naval bases of Colombia under its control under the pretext of "helping it in anti-drug operations and those to rout anti-government troops." It is set to deploy more than 1 400 personnel and lots of arms and equipment there. U.S. military bases are operating in El Salvador, Honduras, Panama, Costa Rica, etc.

Many U.S. military bases whose number is on the steady increase in various countries and regions are unanimously chided by the international community for being advanced bases for realizing its ambition for world domination. -

May 9 - Victory Day of the Soviet people
in the Great Patriotic War!

Dear fellow citizens of the great Soviet Union, members and heirs of the
Great Victory of the Soviet people over fascist imperialist
Germany, over Hitlerism in the Great Patriotic War of 1941 1945!
Soldiers-internationalists, who fought with us in World War II!

Congratulations to all of you on great Victory Day - May 9! Glory to all who defended our country from the bloody boot of fascism and saved the people of Europe from slavery, who paid with their blood for our 50-year existence on earth without war. May all those be cursed who betrayed the great banner of victory and crushed the exploits of our fathers and grandfathers fought for by centuries of honor and independence of Great Russia, Great Motherland - the USSR. May they be cursed for centuries, Nikita Khrushchev and his followers, whose actions were corroding like rust our socialism fought for in battels, those who betrayed the oath of allegiance to the people who completed the filthy cause of Nikita Khrushchev – the counter revolution in the 1990-s of XX century – by the werewolf Gorbachev, Yeltsin the drunk and their henchmen.

We will still win because our cause is - RIGHT!

“Freedom of Thought” Touted by Imperialists Dismissed as Hypocritical

“Freedom of Thought” Touted by Imperialists Dismissed as Hypocritical

Pyongyang, May 3 (KCNA) -- The “freedom of thought” touted by the imperialists is a hypocritical slogan aimed to suppress the progressive idea in the capitalist societies and justify all their means and methods to spread bourgeois reactionary ideas and the ideological and cultural poisoning of other countries.

Rodong Sinmun Tuesday observes this in a bylined article.

It goes on:

The imperialists-touted “freedom of thought” is aimed to suppress the progressive ideas and spread bourgeois reactionary thoughts.

The reactionary bourgeois ruling class pretends to allow to a certain extent the progressive ideas in a bid to embellish the capitalist society as “a sample of freedom” and “democratic society” but mercilessly suppresses them when it considers they are threatening its rule even a bit.

The suppression of the progressive thoughts still persists in the capitalist countries.

The imperialists are becoming evermore undisguised in their ideological and cultural poisoning of the socialist countries and independent countries against imperialism.

The imperialists are openly vociferating that those countries they cannot bring them to their knees with nuclear weapons can easily be brought down by the spread of bourgeois ideology and culture
